Meet the ever so wonderful Mario who joined us at the beginning of July at risk of euthanasia having been found as a stray.
Mario was around 10 months old at the time and upon landing in our care it was clear to see he had a visible limp on one leg and preferred to carry it. We got him immediately to the wonderful Alan Mayo at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital where it was confirmed Mario had a doubly dysplacia on both back hips. One was awful and one was not to bad. Treatment options and outcomes were discussed at length and it was felt that should Mario have a full hip replacement on the worst hip then the other hip may be able to manage. We of course opted for that choice and £3000 worth of surgery and a long road to recovery later I am over the moon to announce that the boy has the all clear.
Mario is an amazingly gentle little dog, he is currently in foster with another lurcher whom he gets on well with and Mario has been cat tested and showed little to no interest and the minute the cat approached him he ran away. With careful introductions he could easily live with a dog savy cat. Mario is also great with children and can be rehomed with children 5 years and upwards.
Due to the crate training and confinement at the moment although fine in the house Mario can get a little stressed when left. He needs a home with someone around at all times in the main to begin with and the home MUST have resident dogs he would not manage as an only dog. The home must also understand that its going to take a great deal of time and effort to help Mario feel secure when left BUT full settling and help will be offered at all times via Greyhound Gap. Mario walks like a dream on the lead and also travels really well and is housetrained.
Mario is a great little dog now with a wonderful life ahead of him thanks to all the hard work of the vets, supporters and his foster Mum and he now needs a home to help him continue his journey. IF at anytime in the future the other hip created a problem we would ask the new family were willing to travel to Stoke to allow us to get him back to his surgeon and should any subsequent treatment be needed to the other hip Greyhound Gap would cover the cost but its looking like that may never be necessary right now.
Mario is vaccinated, kc vaccinated, de flead, de wormed, microchipped and has been castrated. To offer out little bionic boy a home please complete the pre adoption questionnaire below in the first instance.
Mario is currently in Stoke on Trent and any resident family would have to be committed to meeting him along with any current resident dogs.
