About Me

Leo's owners are no longer able to keep him and he is looking for a new home. This is what they say about him:

Leo: approx. 3 y.o. long haired golden lurcher (best guess saluki x deer / wolf hound). Neutered. Up to date with vaccinations, flea and wormer.

Leo is a big softy at heart, one who loves to run and play with other dogs, especially a game of chase (he has to be out front!). He will walk nicely on the lead and gets super excited to see his doggy friends, spinning in circles, play bowing and asking for a game of boxing when he see's them. In the house he will happily chill out or come and find you for a shoulder scratch. He's very food oriented and has learnt to sit, lie and give a paw in exchange for his dinner or a treat (he's also learnt a command for going for a wee when outside!). He's used to living with kids (7 and 9 y.o.) and will take treats super gently.

With an unknown early years history, Leo can find the world super scary. He's come out of shell a lot in the 2 years we've had him but will still jump at anything moving close to him (a foot for example), or unexpected noises (snapping stick). He gets worried when left alone for more than a very short time, even with distractions so needs either human or doggy company. Meeting new dogs can also be scary for Leo and to counter his nerves he will put on a big show telling everyone he needs his space. We've worked a lot on positive re-enforcement of disengaging from hyper focus but this will need to continue. Put him in a pack environment however and Leo will mimic the other dogs, copying their actions and ignoring what on his own he would find scary .
