Shiner is ready to now find a home to call his own. Shiner is just turned 2 and has had a pretty rough hand dealt in life so far. Before landing in rescue he ended up with a broken hock on one back leg and a busted knee on the other. Neither were treated and fixed properly on top of that it looks like he was pretty heavily clobbered and wasn't walking right from pain via his lower back suspected to be discs that needed resting to repair.
After visiting Nantwich and following the expert guidance once again of Al Mayo Shiner was restriced into a smaller kennel and completely rested before gradual exercise was re introduced. From a dog that had a gait that meant he waddled and wafted when walking and struggled slightly to hold his own body weight he is now absolutely fabulous and is enjoying normal walks, pain free and just an absolute superstar. He visited Al yesterday who said even though he will always have a little tell tale sign when walking due to the breaks he is absolutely fabulous now and ready to live what is hoped to be a normal life.
Shiner needs a home with people who understand he isn't perfect but non of us are. That have realistic expectations and don't want to take him to climb mountains. A sensible home that understands his limits are one or two hours walking when built up maximum. He can run like the wind, he can play with toys like a demon, he can work out enrichement puzzles and he has a heart of gold. He is one of the most happiest and sweet natured dogs we have ever met and Smiler as a name would actually suit him more than Shiner but its now his time to shine <3 He just needs that family and sofa to call his own.
We feel Shiner would be better with the company of another dog. He absolutely adores them. He is so happy around other greyhounds and although he has quite a prey drive for small furries with other breeds he needs more socialisation but seems curious as opposed to keen. He wants to learn everything about everyone. He can also be rehomed with dog savy children 6 years and upwards. He just adores people.
Shiner is vaccinated, kc vaccinated, de flead, de wormed, microchipped and is neutered. We are looking for a home that understands should in the future the need arise for Shiner to be seen again we would wish to continue his care under the wonderful team at Nantwich. Of course the costs will be ours as would be expected as pre existing conditions could not be insured.
Shiner is currently in Stoke on Trent but can be rehomed nationally subject to a successful homevisit and all members of the immediate family and any resident dogs being willing to travel to meet him
