Meet wonderful Wilbur, our big bundle of fun! Wilbur is a young, playful lurcher with bags of personality, who is looking for a very special home. He is an intelligent and active boy who learns quickly, and has a lot of love to give. Wilbur’s previous family spent a lot of time training him and teaching him good manners – he is housetrained, travels brilliantly in the car, and walks really well on lead. Wilbur loves to run and play with his toys, although his favourite pastime is to settle down with a tasty chew.
Wilbur is a sociable boy who enjoys meeting other dogs on lead – however his play style off-lead with other dogs is very OTT, so he would prefer to be the only dog in his new home. Although he has been very good with children out and about, he would be best in an adult only home due to his size and enthusiasm. He is very affectionate and interactive with people. Wilbur is a beautiful bull lurcher, with a lot of breed typical behaviour traits (both positive and more challenging ones!). As such, we are looking for an owner who is experienced with bull breeds.
Although he was originally picked up as a stray, Wilbur has since been rehomed and returned back into the care of Forever Hounds Trust. This was due to some difficult behaviour shown in his previous home, caused by over-excitement and frustration. Despite being an overgrown puppy, Wilbur’s size and strength mean he can be difficult to handle when over stimulated. Wilbur has been following a new training plan in kennels, and eating a special diet (as we have discovered his behaviour is highly influenced by what he eats) and has made loads of progress already.
His new family must be confident in living with large dogs, and happy to follow his training/diet plan as he settles in to the home. Wilbur’s new family will receive ongoing support and advice from our behaviour team, to help continue the progress he has already made.
Wilbur truly is an adorable dog, who you can’t help but fall in love with! Although he will need some ongoing training, he has masses of potential and will make a really rewarding pet. Can you make Wilbur’s wish come true?
