Say hello to Super Seamus, our very handsome saluki lurcher! Seamus is really a big puppy at just over a year old, and like many young lurchers he is full of fun and very intelligent. He has plenty of energy, and loves nothing more than long walks, games in the garden, and using his big brain to learn new things. This is what his foster home say about him:
“Seamus came up to us in May. He’s a quirky, delightful, playful boy who we’ve found to be excellent with other dogs and friendly towards people of all kinds. He walks nicely on the lead, doesn’t pull, and travels really well.
“He doesn’t seem phased by too much: We’ve got building work going on now and he is totally unbothered. He also slept through the thunderstorms we’ve had recently. He adores being outside and will spend hours lying flat out on the yard. He does need to run!
“We have a small field and he adores zooming around up there. He likes to carry blankets, shoes and sponges up there to play with, like a big puppy! He has a whole collection! He’s OK being left, though does really prefer the company of another dog when we’re out. He spends much of the day with a little whippet cross and they play together well. His recall in our field is pretty good.
“He does need managing a bit around food, chews and sometimes his personal space, but we have found this not to be a problem. He carries himself beautifully when you see him run free. He’s quite agile too. He’s a big, goofy and friendly lad who enjoys life, loves his walks and is enthusiastic about life and everything he does. He’s also rather stunning, as you can see!”
Seamus loves making new doggie friends, and loves playing chase with them if they’re willing! He is really affectionate once he gets to know you, and will want to cuddle up to his new owners for plenty of fuss. Seamus thrives on human company and would prefer not to be left alone too often, or for long periods. He walks beautifully on lead (although he can get a little excited if he spots a rabbit!), enjoys meeting new people and is housetrained.
Seamus is looking for a home without children, as he can be worried in some situations within the home. He could share his home with a canine companion (as long as they were keen to play with him!) but doesn’t find it easy to share his food or toys, so some management would be needed in this respect. An owner who is willing to carry on his training would be ideal. He would be equally happy as an only pet, with regular chances to meet and play with dogs out and about.
Sunbathing outside is one of Seamus’ favourite things – especially in nice weather! He will need a home with a secure garden, and owners who are willing to leave the back door open for him during the day at least to start with as he can initially be unsure about coming inside the house. Seamus has good recall and should be able to spend time zooming off-lead in safe areas, once he has formed a bond with his new family.
